The 2010 Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival, presented in association with: Lebowski’s, Jazzgroove (Syd), Jazzhead, & the Melbourne Jazz Co-op.
The Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival was formed in 2005 to celebrate Melbourne’s burgeoning creative jazz scene. Now established as a leading event in the Melbourne cultural calendar, the 2010 festival will again make the ears prick up, the heart soar, and let the mind be gloriously surprised. It will feature some of Australia’s most celebrated improvisers in an inspiring nine days and nights of creative and groundbreaking music making.
The 2010 Jazz Fringe Festival kicks off in BMW Edge at Federation Square on April 23rd at 7.30pm with the APRA Composer Commission Concert featuring a new work by celebrated Melbourne vocalist Gian Slater. “Gone, without saying” is a work for voices that explores the notion of communication between and without words. That which cannot be put into words – those things we don’t wish to speak of, or those that go without saying. This work is written for voices using experimental and extended vocal techniques with intricate, textural layering and conceptual improvising. Opening the concert are three time Aria winner Andrea Keller and Tim Wilson with the launch of their debut duo cd. Bookings: www.bellaunion.com.au
